New partnership to promote physical activity, health and well-being launches April 3

Students in Yoga on the Blue class

Most people are aware that exercise is good for their health. It is so critical to health and well-being that it can be considered a form of medicine.

To promote physical activity among students, faculty and staff, Boise State recently joined Exercise is Medicine® On Campus, a nationwide program sponsored by the American College of Sports Medicine.

Join Provost John Buckwalter, College of Health Sciences Dean Joelle Powers, and members of the Kinesiology Club to kick off the initiative with remarks, swag give-a-ways, and a short walk at noon on April 3 on the quad by the Administration Building. In the case of rain, the group will meet in the lobby of Bronco Gym.

Exercise is Medicine® On Campus brings exercise, health and other disciplines together to celebrate the importance of physical activity relative to individual and campus health and well-being. The ultimate goal is to increase awareness about physical activity opportunities in the community and to use physical activity for chronic disease prevention and management.

The program aims to make physical activity assessment and promotion a standard in clinical care, connecting health care with evidence-based physical activity resources for people everywhere and of all abilities. The university setting is a microcosm of society that can help to educate and inspire students, faculty and staff to work together to promote physical activity on campus and within healthcare settings.

Boise State’s Exercise is Medicine® On Campus leadership team consists of students, faculty and staff from the Department of Kinesiology, Campus Recreation, Wellness Services, Athletics and the College of Health Sciences Dean’s Office. For more information about this initiative and physical activity opportunities on campus, visit the initiative’s webpage.
