Boise State University conducted the 2024 Employee Experience Survey to gather insights and perspectives from faculty and staff. This effort reflects the university’s commitment to fostering a thriving workplace where employees feel valued, engaged and supported.
A focus on leadership, culture and engagement
Recognizing the importance of employee feedback, the Human Resources and Workforce Strategy team conducted the biennial survey to assess workplace satisfaction. Building upon the 2022 supervisor survey, the focus was refined to elevate three key pillars of the employee experience: leadership, culture and engagement. To maintain confidentiality, Institutional Effectiveness deployed the survey and removed all identifiers before sending final results to the HR team.
“Boise State’s success is driven by its people,” said Annie Hightower, interim chief human resources officer. “We appreciate employees’ participation in this survey and will use their feedback to drive meaningful change and enhance our workplace culture.”
Survey participation and response rates
The survey was distributed to benefit-eligible employees via email on October 1, 2024, with a submission deadline of October 28, 2024. A total of 1,289 employees participated, representing an overall response rate of 42% – an 8% increase from the 2022 survey. The survey maintains a margin of error of below 2%.
Response rate by employee classification:
- Classified staff: 47% (216 out of 460 employees)
- Professional staff: 45% (782 out of 1,734 employees)
- Faculty: 34% (291 out of 838 employees)
Key findings
The survey revealed several positive trends in employee sentiment: a majority of employees expressed overall satisfaction with their work experience; feeling valued in their roles; and would refer someone to work at Boise State.

Continuing the conversation
Human Resources and Workforce Strategy has presented results to the university’s Administrative Council and will present division- and college-specific results with leaders in those areas. Results will also be shared with employee associations.
The insights gained from the survey will help shape future initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace culture and employee engagement. Boise State remains dedicated to listening to its employees and creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
