Nisha Bellinger, faculty director in the School of Public Service, recently published an article about how ethnic identity affects political involvement. Specifically, Bellinger and her collaborators looked at communities in the Sundarbans in coastal India.

The research studied two groups- a Scheduled Tribe, which is a minority group, and a non-tribe group that is a majority. The study found that, overall, politics were more important to the non-tribe group than the Scheduled Tribe group. However, the study showed no difference in level of political involvement between the two groups.
The article explores and discusses these findings in the context of environmental issues.
