Mulhern recognized for impact on multilingual education in Idaho

Margaret Mulhern, clinical professor in multilingual education, was honored as a distinguished board member by the Idaho Association for Bilingual Education at their annual conference in January. The recognition honors outstanding commitment and service on behalf of multilingual learners across the state of Idaho.

Mulhern teaches literacy and language courses in the College of Education that enable future educators to utilize best teaching practices and literacy strategies to support multilingual students. During her 30-year career at Boise State, she has worked with more than 100 student teachers, who often go on to have careers beyond the classroom.

“It’s great to see that students I’ve worked with have become teacher- leaders in their building and in the state,” said Mulhern. “They are principals and administrators, and have become state leaders in the field.”

In addition to serving on the board for the Idaho Association for Bilingual Education, Mulhern also serves as a consultant to the Idaho Department of Education English Learners Program.
