Sass launches free artificial intelligence course for seniors

A new online course, AI Tools for Seniors, is now available for free to senior citizens worldwide, providing an accessible and engaging introduction to artificial intelligence. School for the Digital Future faculty member Margaret Sass developed the course after working with local seniors. The course was created in response to a clear need for education among seniors, particularly those who are homebound and unable to attend in-person classes.

Jackie Throngard, BroncoLearn manager in Learning Technology Solutions, also played an instrumental role in shaping the course, ensuring the platform is intuitive and user-friendly.

The self-paced course covers how AI tools can provide companionship, cognitive stimulation and assistance with daily tasks. Seniors will learn how to use AI-powered chatbots for conversation, brain-training apps to keep their minds sharp, and voice assistants to manage reminders and stay connected with loved ones. The course also includes a section on online safety and privacy, ensuring that participants can confidently navigate AI tools while protecting their personal information.

The AI Tools for Seniors course is available now. Seniors, caregivers and family members interested in learning more can view the course on Bronco Learn. Community organizations and senior centers are encouraged to share this resource to help bridge the digital divide for seniors.
