Ross Burkhart, professor of political science in the School of Public Service, was quoted in a PolitiFact article which dissects and fact-checks President-elect Donald Trump’s recent interview for “Meet the Press.”
In response to one of the President-elect’s statements from the interview, where he said that tariffs “cost Americans nothing,” Burkhart explained that tariffs raise the cost of doing business as prices rise and goods sold decrease, thus reducing the purchasing power of consumers. Thus, he shared, tariffs do have a cost to Americans, depending on the goods and services involved.
