The award-winning team: Brandonn Harris, Eric Martin, Megan Byrd, Chelsea Wooding and Katy Johnson

Eric Martin, an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was recognized for a recent project with the Distinguished Public Communication, Awareness and Outreach Award. This award specifically honors an Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) member in recognition of their efforts to promote, raise awareness of, or extend the field of sport psychology to broader, non-sport professional communities.

Martin was part of a team with Megan Byrd and Brandonn Harris, who are both from Georgia Southern University, Chelsea Wooding from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Katy Johnson from Indiana University. Together, the group interviewed past AASP presidents concerning their academic history and current perspectives on the field’s course of evolution since their presidency. The team also asked past president’s advice to current students and early career professionals. The interviews were recorded as a podcast series, called “AASP and Answered” and then analyzed as part of a research project.

Martin and the team were recognized at the annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the team presented the first part of their research in October 2024.
