Angel Casiano, a Boise State senior majoring in criminal justice, was recently selected for a spring 2025 internship with the United States Supreme Court. Casiano will be living, studying and interning in Washington, D,C., starting in January 2025 as part of the School of Public Service’s Capital Connection program. The program sends a cohort of eight students to the nation’s capital for a semester where they gain career experience in a field of their choice. The program sent its inaugural group of students in spring 2024, making the 2025 cohort the second group to have this opportunity.
Casiano will be interning in the Office of the Counselor to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, where he will conduct background research on briefings, draft correspondence, collect, track and summarize news articles, and other duties as assigned. When asked what he’s looking forward to about the internship experience, Casiano said, “…being part of something that directly impacts the lives of everyone. Since I came to Boise, I started to better understand how the U.S. Supreme Court is involved in our lives and I look back on the several decisions it made to provide the protections that I have now.”
Following his upcoming graduation in May 2025, Casiano plans to attend law school to become an attorney and continue working in law or the judiciary system. The internship program in Washington, D.C., provides an opportunity to learn more about his desired career path and gain hands-on experience.
“I’ve had to overcome a lot of adversity since the moment I chose this path, that seemed unrealistic for someone with my background and struggles,” Casiano said. “By obtaining this internship, it not only showcases what the possibilities are, but also honors those who came before me.”
Casiano will be joined in Washington by seven fellow students next semester: Emily Grabow, Zane Rivers, Cayden Stone, Kennedy Cummins, Max Harris, Mia Castillo-Rivera and Madison Schmidt. Keep up with all the 2025 Capital Connection students on the School of Public Service Instagram page.
