Ross Burkhart, political science professor in the School of Public Service, was quoted in a recent PolitiFact article, “Ask PolitiFact: What are Donald Trump’s second-term plans for the economy, immigration, abortion?”
In the article, Burkhart discussed the impact of president-elect Trump’s proposed 25% tariffs on Mexican goods for the United States’ food and tequila prices, in response to a question posed by a PolitiFact reader. He mentioned that due to the low profit margins of grocery stores in the United States, it is unlikely that food importers will be able to avoid passing the cost of the tariffs on to consumers, thus raising prices. Tequila is no exception to this likely result of the tariffs on Mexico: the cost of a margarita is likely to rise if these tariffs are imposed by Trump, Burkhart explained.
