Jeff Lingwall, an associate professor and associate chair for the Department of Management, was named the College of Business and Economics Distinguished Teaching Professor.
Lingwall earned a juris doctor from Yale Law School and doctorate in economics and public policy from Carnegie Mellon University. After law school, he clerked for the Honorable Duane Benton on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, practiced class action law at Shook, Hardy and Bacon, LLP, and taught law, ethics and data science at Truman State University.
He joined the Boise State Department of Management in 2019 and currently teaches business law and ethics courses in the MBA and undergraduate management programs. Lingwall serves as a faculty senator and as chair of the College of Business and Economics’ responsible business initiative committee. He’s published on a wide variety of topics related to business law and ethics. His current research focuses on fiduciary duties in benefit corporations that combine for-profit and non-profit roles.
As the College of Business and Economics Distinguished Teaching Professor, he will advance the role that open pedagogical resources play in business instruction, including the development of open textbooks, open interactive learning material and wiki-based assignments.
He thanks his wife Julia and their seven children for their continued patience and support, and his wonderful colleagues for their tireless mentoring and friendship.
About endowed positions
For centuries, endowed positions have been regarded as the hallmark of an institution’s long-term commitment to academic advancement and an important recognition of faculty excellence. They are uniquely distinct in the way that they provide valuable support for the work of faculty members of the highest distinction.
At Boise State, endowed positions enable faculty to contribute to strategic initiatives, enhance efforts for faculty recruitment and retention, provide exceptional experience to students and bestow prestige on programs and the university at large.
Endowed positions are typically funded by the generosity of donors and often carry a donor’s or special honoree’s name, with the funds given sustaining the gift for years to come. In each case, an endowed position supports the awardee’s teaching, research and service to the profession and institution.
