After five years of unprecedented success as Vice President of Advancement and Chief Executive Officer of the Boise State University Foundation, Matthew Ewing has announced he will return to his alma mater, Indiana University, to become Senior Vice President for Development of the Indiana University Foundation.

“I am so grateful to Matthew Ewing for his incredible impact as a leader and on our community. His extraordinary outcomes will affect students, faculty, and staff for generations at Boise State University,” said Dr. Marlene Tromp, president. “He led our fundraising team through three consecutive record years, launched our largest philanthropic campaign in university history, and built relationships and structures that set us up for many successes to come. His work and commitment to Boise State have directly benefited our student scholarship, faculty research, athletic success, community engagement and more. We wish him all the best at Indiana.

“I am so pleased that Argia Beristain, senior associate vice president for development, will serve as our interim CEO. Her experience will help ensure a seamless transition, and I appreciate her willingness to serve our university in this capacity.”

Under Ewing’s leadership, the foundation launched Unbridled: The Campaign for Boise State University. The Unbridled campaign has raised $363.2 million of its $500 million goal to support student access and success, faculty innovation and what’s next for athletics. This has included nearly $70 million for endowed scholarships, the creation of 10 new endowed faculty positions and $136.2 million for athletic initiatives.

“Matthew has been an instrumental leader for all of us, and I am deeply grateful for his service, expertise and even friendship,” said Jim Martin, Executive Chair of the Boise State University Foundation Board of Directors. “He has led with true unbridled Bronco spirit, showing us all not only how to dream big about the foundation’s potential impact but also how to make that vision a reality. He will be sorely missed, and we wish him continued success as he returns to his alma mater. We are confident Argia will maintain the foundation’s momentum. I appreciate her assuming the interim role and leading us into this new chapter.”

Beristain has been with the university for over 10 years, working closely with Ewing and overseeing key campaign fundraising strategy. Ewing’s last day will be Oct. 31, 2024. The search for a new Foundation CEO will be facilitated by the foundation’s board.
