The Math Learning Center appointed Brinley Stringer to the directorship in July 2024.
Stringer holds a doctorate in mathematics education from San Diego State University and the University of California San Diego. Her research focuses on near-peer mentors and amplifying student voices within mathematics departments. By positioning students as stakeholders, Stringer investigates how near-peer mentor programs can serve as catalysts and vehicles for departmental change.
She loves teaching introductory mathematics courses, connecting with the students and finding new ways to implement evidence-based teaching practices in the classroom.
Tying all of her pursuits together, Stringer strives to be a grassroots change leader with the overarching goal of catalyzing institutional change efforts within higher education that support student-centered initiatives.
“The Math Learning Center is a transformative institution for student success,” said Leslie Durham, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “I’m thrilled to have Dr. Stringer onboard as director. With her background in math education and near-peer mentoring, she will lead the Math Learning Center into its next chapter.”
