Leslie Kendrick, associate professor and chair of the Department of Radiologic Sciences and program director of the Imaging Sciences program, and John Lampignano, faculty emeritus of the Department of Radiologic Sciences, presented “A Systematic Approach to Cranial and Facial Bone Critique” at the Annual Conference for the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology.
Teaching students how to produce quality head and facial bone images is challenging because these exams involve complex anatomy and are not frequently performed. Positioning the patient’s body is key. Kendrick and Lampignano recommend taking a systematic approach to identify positioning errors that result in substandard images. In addition to demonstrating how to identify common positioning errors in substandard images, Kendrick and Lampignano engaged participants in interactive work assessing a series of images to determine if they met established standards.
Conference sessions like this are critical to the healthcare education community – they are a great resource to make connections, find new opportunities and improve teaching strategies, which should result in better providers and patient care.
