Jessica Barkley and Jamie Jensen, career counselors from Career Services, recently presented at the National Career Development Conference in San Diego, California. Their presentation, “Unlocking Potential: Empowering Neurodiverse Career Success,” focused on the intersectionality of mental health and how that can impact neurodivergent students and their career development.
The presentation educated attendees about neurodiversity and the barriers that accompany being a neurodiverse person. Barkley and Jensen emphasized that many neurodiverse individuals can struggle with traditional elements of a career journey such as career exploration, networking, job hunting and networking and offered ways counselors and educators can empower neurodiverse individuals through their career journey.
