Boise State Professor Tara Penry is hosting a virtual memorial for Canadian author Alice Munro who died last month. Munro was famous for her short stories and won numerous awards throughout her career, including the 2013 Nobel Prize for Literature. She was the first Canadian to earn that honor.

Penry’s virtual memorial includes reflections on Munro’s legacy, tributes from other authors and poets, and an interview with Munro biographer Robert Thacker. The virtual memorial can be viewed on Penry’s Substack.

Penry has taught literature at Boise State since 2000. Her research focuses on Western writers from the 19th century to the present day, the unfinished Civil War, 19th-century periodicals, editors and editing, project-based learning and teamwork, educational equity and everyday literacies.
