Microsoft has announced that it will no longer support Windows 10 starting fall 2025. The Office of Information Technology is planning to update supported university-owned Windows computers to Windows 11 by summer 2025.
Beginning fall 2025, university-owned computers still running Windows 10 will no longer receive updates or support from Microsoft. This includes critical security updates, which are essential for protecting against vulnerabilities and threats.
The Office of Information Technology’s initial assessment indicates that approximately 35% of university-owned computers are not compatible with Windows 11. Each department is encouraged to start planning for this transition. This may involve budgeting for new hardware over the next two fiscal years to ensure all university-owned Windows computers are compatible with Windows 11 by fall 2025.
