Collection drive provides students ‘warm wishes’

A bin of warm clothing accessories sits with food pantry items

The Warm Wishes Collection Drive, organized by the Office of Communications and Marketing, provided more than 120 mittens, gloves, hats and scarves to students at the Campus Food Pantry

“This effort is a heartwarming display of community spirit and we would like to thank everyone who participated and donated,” said Melinda Keckler, director of marketing.

The collection drive was launched during the holiday tree lighting on the Quad in November. Donation bins were strategically placed across campus while monetary donations were collected through a dedicated fundraising website. On the first day of the Spring 2024 semester, the mittens, gloves and hats were distributed to students at no cost from the Campus Food Pantry.

The scope of kindness extended beyond mittens and gloves, with many also donating gently used coats and jackets. Those will soon be distributed along with scarves at the Campus Clothing Closet in the Gender Equity Center located in the Student Union.
