Boise State’s online Bachelor of Science in Advanced Medical Imaging Diagnostic Medical Sonography Modality received accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Boise State is the first online bachelor’s program in diagnostic medical sonography to receive accreditation in the U.S.
The university’s Bachelor of Science in Advanced Medical Imaging provides industry-responsive education with innovative curriculum and interactive technology to prepare students for the future of medical imaging, and to meet the high demand for qualified, capable technologists. It is an associate to bachelor’s degree completion program, delivered in a convenient, fully online format featuring seven-week courses and six start dates per year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in the U.S. Department of Labor projects a 6% job growth in medical imaging from 2021-2031.
Boise State’s on-campus Diagnostic Medical Sonography program has been accredited by the Joint Review Committee since 2001. The program became an emphasis in the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences in 1990. The new online sonography format through the Advanced Medical Imaging program allows students across the nation – particularly in rural areas – to enhance their careers.
Accreditation holds programs accountable for their educational methods for the benefit of the field and students. Programs must adhere to standards and best practices established by national organizations for their field.
The Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a nonprofit organization in existence to establish, maintain and promote quality standards for educational programs in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Since 1983, the organization has provided a mechanism of committee review to recognize educational programs throughout the U.S. that instruct students in the disciplines related to sonography through education consistent with standards for entry into practice.
