Albertsons Library to end Nexis Uni subscription June 30, recommends other licensed databases

Albertsons Library will end its subscription to Nexis Uni on June 30. The campus community is encouraged to use Westlaw Campus Research, Access World News and other licensed databases for news and law resources.

An in-depth evaluation of available resources revealed that Westlaw Campus Research and Access World News better align with the legal, news and business research requirements for students, faculty and staff.

Several factors were considered during the review process, including the accessibility of the platform, usage patterns, data privacy and the considerable subscription costs associated with Nexis Uni. It was determined that alternative resources would better meet the needs of the campus community. Notable universities following a similar path include the University of Georgia, Northeastern University and the University of Washington.

To ensure the preservation of any personal documents saved in Nexis Uni, users are advised to export them before June 30. Export options include saving the documents as PDFs or Word files, uploading them to cloud storage services like Dropbox or Google Docs, or printing and emailing them.

Westlaw Campus Research offers enhanced browsing capabilities and user-friendly point-and-click navigation, providing a more intuitive experience compared to Nexis Uni. Its comprehensive collection of content and research tools better-support the diverse research needs of the users. Additional legal sources include HeinOnline.

For users who relied on Nexis Uni for news sources, Access World News or ProQuest Central are recommended. Mergent Intellect, ABI/ INFORM or Business Source Premier are recommended as business information sources.
