Campus communicators, marketers invited to Boise State Marcom Summer Camp

Boise State staff who work in the areas of communications and/or marketing are invited to join the Office of Communications and Marketing and marcom colleagues from across campus for the 2022 Boise State Marcom Summer Camp on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25-26.

Celebrate our communications and marketing community highlights from FY22 and select from a wide variety of workshops designed to enhance your repertoire. Day one will focus on storytelling. Day two will focus on our digital footprint.

Session A: Promoting Your Event with the University Event Calendar

Presenters: Heather Calkins and Mikayla Mitzel
Location: AFC Ballroom
The University Special Events and Protocols team will demo how to add your event to the University Event Calendar and share best practices for how to promote your event.

Session B: Making the Most Impact on the Modern Newsroom

Presenter: Mike Sharp
Location: AFC 406
What does the modern newsroom look like? How is it different for newspaper, television or radio? What strategies make your pitch strong? How can you grab the attention of the people who matter most and who are those people? We will discuss strategies to get some attention from reporters who will be best to do your story and discuss why so many press releases go in the trash bin.

Session C: The Path of a Marketing Campaign: From Concept to Creation

Presenter: Melinda Keckler

We’ll walk you through the process of developing and executing a strategic marketing campaign, using relevant real-world examples to showcase each step along the way. This will be a great opportunity to evaluate your department’s marketing strategy.

Learn the fundamentals of good design, and how to select and appropriately use type, color, photos, charts, graphic elements and more.

Session C: Building Content Strategy

Presenter: Sherry Squires
Location: AFC 317
Everyone has a story. How do you know which ones to tell? How, where, when and whom should you tell them to get the most impact? We will discuss how to incorporate more strategy into our content development plans and processes.
