The council for the Rural Sociological Society recently elected Rebecca Som Castellano, associate professor of sociology, as the council member representing non-land grant universities. The society is a professional organization for rural sociologists that seeks to “enhance the quality of rural life, communities, and the environment.” In addition to publishing Rural Sociology, the flagship journal in the field, the organization acts as a leading voice on advocacy, policy, and scholarship for rural people and places in the U.S., and globally. Som Castellano’s term begins in August 2022.
