Carolyn Quintero, senior accessibility specialist with the Office of Information Technology, co-presented “Accessibility: A Practical Approach to Disability Inclusion” at the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Summit hosted by the Blue Sky Institute.
The Oct. 20 presentation explored paths to developing inclusive access for workplaces and building a culture of accessibility within institutional frameworks and practices.
Too often attention to accessibility in the development of documents or processes is addressed in terms of legal policy, institutional guidelines and software checklists, Quintero said. She argued that although these resources are helpful contributors to accessibility conversations, they lack the ability to address the dynamic space of human access.
Quintero, along with co-presenters and panelists, offered personal experiences with inclusive access strategies to create a human foundation to exploring perspectives and practices of accessibility.
