Fall 2021 marked the beginning of the newest degree program offered by the Boise State College of Engineering. The Cyber Operations and Resilience Program is the college’s answer to a booming workforce demand across the country while providing opportunities for students, military members, and professionals across many fields.
“The College of Engineering looks forward to this new path of study which will meet the needs of Idaho students, in particular transfer students,” said JoAnn Lighty, College of Engineering dean. “The CORe programs are designed for maximum flexibility and background to help increase student pathways to meet the workforce demands in this area.”
The fall 2021 launch of the CORe program continued collaboration between Extended Studies, the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity, and the College of Engineering. The program features two degrees: a bachelor of science and a master of science in cyber operations and resilience, as well as three graduate certificates (CORe analyst and threat intelligence, governance policy administration, and resilience engineering).
The CORe program’s third degree, set to start in Spring 2022, is a bachelor of applied science in cyber operations and resilience. It is designed for those with technical credit hours or an associate applied science degree.
“Cyber is about people, process, and technology,” said Sin Ming Loo, director of the Cyber Operations and Resilience program. “This program teaches system thinking. We want our graduates to comprehend the big picture, and hopefully solve the right problem, not just the symptoms.”
The cyber operations and resilience program is designed around the realities of today’s broad cyber landscape, teaching students to anticipate, detect, mitigate and manage cyber and physical threats and breaches in any system over time, while also building resilience through detection, response, and return. With technology in mind, CORe was designed as an asynchronous online program with pathways for high school students, community college graduates and other returning students, military members, working professionals, and those with undergraduate degrees in any field.
