Michael Russo, visiting assistant professor in counselor education, was featured in an article in Counseling Today about the benefits of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) in patients reporting trauma and anxiety. Russo is a licensed counselor in Idaho and specializes in integrating neuroscience into counseling practice. The article highlights Russo’s participation in a meta-analysis which determined that EMDR can be an effective treatment for patient trauma and anxiety in some cases, but not in all. According to Russo, counselors should consider research on EMDR along with the specific needs of clients when deciding whether EMDR treatment will be effective on a case-by-case basis.
