Michael Allen, an associate professor in the School of Public Service, and his co-authors recently published research on the number of U.S. service members in other countries from 1950-2020. Their work on the increasing presence of U.S. service members stationed in Africa informed an opinion piece in Newsweek.
Data from Allen’s project can be used for understanding the changes in U.S. overseas deployments and the positive and negative effects of those deployments.
