Idaho Film Collection grant proposal deadline: Oct. 15

The Idaho Film Collection supports scholarly research and creative activities in film, photography, and media studies as these relate to and/or benefit Idaho and the Northwest. The collection supports the activities of filmmakers, photographers, and scholars in related fields, as well as public screenings, exhibitions, and festivals.

Grants range from $500-$1500. Grants are also available for students (see below).

To apply for a grant, applicants should submit the following to Prof. Mariah Devereux Herbeck (devereuxherbeck@boisestate.edu) by Oct. 15 (another application round will take place in 2022 with a March 15 deadline):

  • A detailed description of your project and how it relates to the mission of the Idaho Film Collection. Your proposal must include a projected timeline for completion and a description of anticipated outcomes.
  • A detailed itemized one-page budget for the proposed project, including other anticipated sources of funding and a clear explanation of how much (a precise dollar amount) you are asking from IFC and how you will use it.
  • For photographers: 10-15 samples of your work, roughly 5×7 at 300 dpi to be shared via Google Drive.
  • For video/ filmmakers: Submit work samples such as; two to three previous examples of film/video work (three minutes maximum submitted via Vimeo or youtube links) or work script, sample of the film and/ or storyboard, and a CV/resumé, if applying as a photographer or video/filmmaker.

For students:

Current Boise State students can apply for film and photography grants. Film, experimental video, and photography projects are all eligible. Grants range from $200-$500.

  • Project description: A student’s project will be considered in any stage of the creative process though it should be clearly developed. Students are strongly encouraged to review their proposal and budget with their film/photography instructor(s) before submitting their documents.
  • A detailed description of how the project relates to the mission of Idaho Film Collection (with clear logline for film projects). Your proposal must include a projected timeline for completion, intended audience, list of student participants, and distribution or exhibition plans.
  • A detailed itemized one-page budget for the proposed project including other anticipated sources of funding and a clear explanation of how much (a precise dollar amount) you are asking from IFC and how you will use it.
  • For photographers: 10-15 samples of your work, roughly 5×7 at 300 dpi to be shared via Google Drive.
  • For video/ filmmakers: Submit work samples such as; two to three previous examples of film/video work (three minutes maximum submitted via Vimeo or youtube links) or work script, sample of the film and/or storyboard, a CV/resumé.
  • If you’ve received an IFC grant in the past, you must provide an update on the project and how you used the grant.

Grant recipients will be notified usually within two weeks.
