Ralph Clare, an associate professor of English, published a book chapter, Credit Where Debit is Due: Finance and Consumer Credit in Popular Culture in “Cultural Studies in the Digital Age,” (editors Bill Nericcio and Antonio Rafel, SDSU Press/CODE[X], 2021).
Clare’s chapter examines films about the 2008 financial crisis and recent credit card ads to show how the financial turn in the economy and its fallout have been cynically depicted as business as usual and the lessons of the crisis virtually ignored.
