Boise State’s Hazard and Climate Resilience Institute (HCRI) recently published four new hazard pages addressing drought, extreme summer weather, heat, and air quality and wildfire smoke. Each page details what to expect in the likelihood of such a hazard, how to prepare for it, how to take steps to mitigate your risk, as well as links to helpful local resources.
Given the way 2020 has gone thus far, HCRI also cordially invites the campus community to plan ahead and virtually participate in the Great Idaho Shakeout on Oct. 15. This annual event highlights earthquake preparedness and encourages participants to practice earthquake safety in different situations.
“Earthquakes are one of the top ranked hazards for Idaho, and future earthquakes will impact campus operations,” said Brittany Brand, director of the HCRI.
It is the HCRI’s mission to educate the community on such hazards in an effort to increase resilience to the impacts of future adverse events. The institute recently was recognized as a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador of Excellence, a title jointly bestowed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service. The institution received the accolade largely due to its educational materials.
