Matt Recla, interim associate director of University Foundations, published an article in the journal Mortality titled “Pathology, identity, or both? Making meaning from early Christian martyrdom.”
As the abstract notes, “A multi-disciplinary approach is required to avoid apologetics for early Christian narratives and to understand the complex psychosocial dynamics of martyrdom, whether in the ancient past or the present.”
The article represents ongoing work toward his book, Rethinking Martyrdom, which is under contract with Bloomsbury Academic for next year.
