Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau undertakes the herculean task of counting all the people residing in the country. Individuals have until Aug. 14 to fill out the 2020 U.S. Census questionnaire that was mailed to their homes, and while it may seem like there are more pressing things going on in the world, here’s why filling out and returning census data is important.
The count affects funding allocation for public resources – including roads, hospitals, schools – how communities like Boise plan for the future and even shapes Idaho’s voice in government.
For the first time this year, the U.S. Census Bureau is accepting responses online, as well as by mail and phone. The process is quick and secure. Individuals can find out more information, and respond online, here.
Remember: census workers will never ask for social security numbers, citizenship status or financial information. Concerns? Call 1-800-923-8282.
