Ti Macklin and Elizabeth Barnes, both lectures in the English department, hosted fifth-grade students from Garfield Elementary on Dec. 6 for a pen pals face-to-face meeting with their respective English 101 classes. The project, created by Macklin and part of the Boise State Service-Learning program, paired Boise State and Garfield students, pushing them to write for a real audience: each other.
During the December visit, Boise State students led their elementary school pen pals on an all-campus scavenger hunt designed to showcase the university’s many student-centered organizations and activities.
