Boise State University recently signed an agreement with Verizon to help improve cellular coverage in Albertsons Stadium. Verizon will install a new cellular distributed antenna system (DAS) to provide data and cell coverage for Bronco football games and other stadium events.
Verizon also will make the new system available as an option for other carriers to use, ensuring Boise State fans have similar experiences regardless of their phone service provider.
“Stadium events are very important to the university. These large gatherings influence and enhance Boise State’s reputation, and the people we serve at these events expect technology to be consistent and reliable,” said Brian Bolt, chief information officer in the Office of Information Technology.
The first phase of improvements for Verizon customers is expected to be completed before June 2020.
The agreement with Verizon also serves as a launching pad for additional cellular improvements, including the installation of a new DAS in ExtraMile Arena scheduled for completion prior to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament and other events in 2021.
In addition, Verizon is working to mitigate other areas of poor cell coverage on campus, including the Central Quad and the Morrison Center.
