Samantha Harvey, a professor of English, presented a four-session course on meetings with remarkable books at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute during the month of February.
The course discussed rare books that Harvey studied during her sabbatical on a National Endowment of the Humanities research fellowship at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester, Massachusetts. Topics included rare illustrated books about American picturesque scenery, friendship albums kept by women in the 1820-1850s, and Walt Whitman’s spectacular first edition of “Leaves of Grass.”
