Boise State University’s winter Commencement will honor graduates with a traditional ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Taco Bell Arena. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. No tickets are required.
In total, 1,989 students are eligible for 2,281 degrees and certificates. Of those, 383 students are eligible for honors: 219 cum laude, 146 magna cum laude and 18 summa cum laude.
A Silver Medallion — the university’s highest honor for service — will be presented to A.J. Balukoff, and Wyoming native Ashley Potzernitz, a double major in psychology and Spanish, will be the student commencement speaker.
In addition, the Pesky Awards for Inspirational Teaching will be presented to four outstanding Idaho teachers. Ardent supporters of improved education and founders of the Lee Pesky Learning Center, Alan and Wendy Pesky funded the awards to recognize K-12 teachers in Idaho who “ignite a fire in students at some point in their life to set as a goal becoming a teacher and then lighting a similar fire in the lives of the children they teach.”
The commencement ceremony will include a processional and recessional, individual recognition of graduates and the hooding of doctoral candidates. Widescreens will be set up so family and friends can see the graduates up close as they are individually recognized.
A reception for graduates and their families will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Student Union Building. Each college and school will have a designated area where you can meet with family and friends after the ceremony. Light refreshments will be served.
Parking is free all day. This includes all General and Reserved parking lots, pay lots and parking garages on campus. There will be limited parking near Taco Bell Arena. Shuttles to and from the Lincoln Parking garage will run continuously throughout the event.
The West Stadium parking lot, located between Taco Bell Arena and Bronco Stadium, will be reserved for accessible patrons and their families. Accessible parking is also available in the Lincoln Avenue Garage where an accessible-equipped shuttle will transport patrons to and from Taco Bell Arena from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
