Over the past year and a half, library staff have undertaken one of the largest collection management projects in the history of Albertsons Library. With the ongoing development of the College of Innovation and Design on the second floor of the library and reassignment of floor space, library staff completed a project to evaluate, deselect and refine the university’s physical collection.
Nancy Rosenheim and Mary Aagard led the project, along with Acquisitions and Collections and Access Services staff and library faculty/subject specialists. The group reviewed over 110,000 items to identify multiple copies, study usage patterns and determine the value of each item to campus programs.
Approximately 25,000 volumes of journals in print and microform were relocated to Pioneer Hall. Staff updated library catalog records to reflect the move. Users can request them via the “hold/request” or “request item through interlibrary loan” buttons in the online catalog. Articles will be delivered electronically through interlibrary loan. Users may request request entire volumes to be placed on hold for pick-up or delivery to offices on campus.
