Emily Wakild recently published an article, “Nature Conservation and Protection in Mexico,” in the digital resource, the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Latin American History. Her article takes a long term view towards conservation by considering pre-Columbian practices as well as modern state based protections. Wakild is also an editor for the Oxford Research Encyclopedia; she is in charge of articles relating to environmental history and has commissioned nearly 30 articles in the last four years. The article collection is intended to be a scholarly alternative to Wikipedia, one that provides detailed and rich yet accessible articles introducing scholars and graduate students to important topics in the field.
