Jonathan Lashley, senior instructional technologist in OIT, and Carly Finseth, assistant professor of technical communication, completed a Designing with OER (DOER) fellowship with the Open Education Group. The openly licensed project that they completed, Interaction Design for Technical Communicators, re-envisioned assignments that Finseth teaches so that they might become renewable through student use and creation of open educational resources (OER.) These assignments ask students to produce work that holds lasting value for themselves as well as other technical communication students who are learning interaction design concepts. This collaboration between Lashley and Finseth represents the first step in building out OER content related to technical communication and developing an open textbook about contemporary topics in technical communication.
