Beema Dahal, a master’s student in the Department of Civil Engineering, recently was awarded the 2018 V. Terrey Hawthorne Memorial Scholarship from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at its annual Joint Rail Conference. This scholarship is administered by ASME’s Rail Transportation Division and is awarded to top student researchers across North America working in the field of railroad engineering.
Dahal’s award will help cover her expenses to attend the 2018 Joint Rail Conference in Pittsburg April 18-20. At the conference, Dahal will present a paper titled “Simulating Ballast Breakage under Repeated Loading using the Discrete Element Method.” Dahal joined Boise State in August 2016 and is working toward her master’s degree under the supervision of Deb Mishra.
