Staff and faculty will have an opportunity to earn a Process Improvement Green Belt certificate this spring by participating in a series of five, three-hour workshops hosted by the Process Improvement Initiative. The workshops are hands-on: Small groups of participants will select a project to execute during the sessions using tools from Lean and Six Sigma.
Workshops will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on March 20, April 3, 10, 17 and 24. The experience will be most effective if individuals sign up in groups of three or more from the same department, work group or college.
Green Belt training provides a proven set of tools and ideas that individuals and teams can deploy to tackle most process design and redesign projects in the higher education environment. Examples of recent projects include a new transfer credit academic adjustment process in COHS, eliminating 3,200 steps per semester; streamlining the advising process in COBE to increase capacity by over 50 percent; designing and implementing a new employee onboarding process in COHS; developing a new insurer billing process in the University Clinic, increasing billing per hour by 40 percent.
The Process Improvement Initiative is a group of COBE and COHS faculty who provide problem-solving education and project facilitation for the university community.
Registration deadline for the workshops is Thursday, March 15. There is a registration fee to cover costs. Email Tom Gattiker at tomgattiker@boisestate.edu or call (208) 426-4998 for more information.
