Krishna Pakala and Leslie Atkins Elliott recently organized and hosted an Idaho Wind Energy Workshop at Boise State University on Feb. 24. The workshop was free and open to K-12 STEM teachers and pre-service teachers.

Boise State University is the U.S. Department of Energy Wind for School and Wind Application Center, and Pakala and Elliott are co-principal investigators on this project. Workshop participants had access to wind kits for use in the classroom, and materials were provided that were aligned with Idaho science content standards.

The workshop was facilitated by Vernon Kimball, a program associate from the National Energy Education Development project, and Mike Arquin, director and founder of KidWind. Both of these programs are contracted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Participants represented the following schools: South Middle School, Nampa, Heritage Middle School, Meridian, Compass Public Charter School, Meridian and Treasure Valley Math and Science, Boise.
