The all-you-care-to-eat Boise River Café (BRC) has been completely transformed – along with brand new furniture and interior design, select dining options have been upgraded to better serve the ever-changing preferences of campus diners.
The BRC now features new flooring, tables and chairs, ‘B’ branded high-top community bars and over-sized community booths, which can accommodate 12 people comfortably. The changes have made the BRC a place to study, hang out, relax, have group meetings and of course, eat. Food is still the main priority and this is evident with the changes made by food service director Justin Lord and campus chefs Nathan, Jeremy and Roland.
For convenience, the comfort station has been moved next to the bakery and pizza station. In addition, a revamped and expanded vegan station offers many new options. This station is highlighted by the build-your-own vegan sauté where you can custom build your bowl and have it sautéed on the spot. A new specialty station also has been added and features themes of Taco Tuesdays, Wings Wednesdays and Chefs Thursdays, while offering a wide variety of international dishes. Other stations, like the salad and sandwich station, and pizza and grill stations, have remained the same.
Specialty food items, events and themes are continually being held in the BRC. Continued events such as the executive brunch held every Sunday, First Thursday (February is Cuban themed) and Taco Tuesday will be held. New events like Chef Thursday will focus on Chefs Nathan, Jeremy and Roland battling for kitchen dominance by creating unique dishes every second and third Thursday of the month. Pizza Wars will be held Feb. 9 and will allow students to select from multiple styles of pizza to be added to the permanent menu. Another featured staff member will include university dietician Jessica Butler, who will have feature days and events in the BRC. This will allow her to showcase meals, as well as answer any dietary questions for students.
