Ryan Rau

Graduate Research Assistant

Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering

RyanRau

Ryan graduated from Boise State University in 2021 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Materials Science and Engineering. While completing his B.S. he spent two years as a research assistant in the Ausman Group for novel carbon nanomaterials where he characterized and manufactured composites and aerogels using polymer wrapped single-walled carbon nanotubes.

Ryan spent another year as research assistant in the King Ultrafast Spectroscopy Laboratory exploring novel ways to characterize polymorphs of crystalline drug compounds within matrices of other materials using a combination of ultrafast and conventional vibrational spectroscopy. After graduating, Ryan spent a year teaching organic chemistry labs to undergraduates in the chemistry department before joining the Quantum DNA Research Group under Dr. Lan Li during the summer of 2022 to pursue a Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering. He is currently working on modeling dye structures using Density Functional Theory (DFT) with a future interest in modeling larger molecular systems using molecular dynamics. Outside of BSU, Ryan enjoys playing music with friends, fly fishing the Boise river, and running whitewater around the state of Idaho.
