January 27, 2016 – Kelly Schutt, a senior Materials Science and Engineering major and McNair Fellow is one of only 32 student researchers nationwide to be awarded a 2016 Marshall Scholarship. The award recognizes demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, and the ambassadorial potential to help maintain the enduring relationship between Britain and the United States.

Schutt has been a member of Boise State’s Nanoscale Materials and Device Group since 2012. He designed the DNA Origami B logo (shown in the atomic force microscope image provided), has worked on DNA origami tiling, super-resolution microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and perovskite solar cell synthesis (he and REU teammate Gabe Hanson were the first at Boise State to synthesize a perovskite solar cell).
The Marshall Scholarship will allow Schutt to pursue graduate studies in England researching affordable and sustainable solar energy at Oxford University.
