Eric Scott Alexander is currently Associate Professor at Boise State University where he is the Chair of the Department of Music, and teaches courses in Music Composition and Music Theory.
Eric is an active composer of music for the concert stage as well as dance and film, and his music has been performed in the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has received performances and commissions from numerous performing groups and solo musicians, including the Tree City Chamber Players, Idaho Dance Theatre, the Boise State Narrative Television Initiative, the Playground Ensemble of Denver, the Greeley Colorado Multicultural Festival, the Dynamix String Quartet, Classical Revolution Northern Colorado, the Northern Colorado Artists Concert Series, the Colorado State Music Teachers Association.
His music has been performed at conferences and new music festivals such as the Thailand International Composition Festival in Bangkok, the Florida State University Festival of New Music, the Open Space Festival of New Music, the Aquila Summer Concert Series of Contemporary Music, the Colorado State Music Teachers Association, the Society for Ethnomusicology, and the College Music Society.
Eric earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition from Boston University and a Bachelor of Music Composition from the University of Colorado, Boulder. His composition teachers include Lukas Foss, Richard Cornell, and Charles Fussell at Boston University, Richard Toensing and Luis Jorge González at the University of Colorado, and Ladislav KubÃk at the Czech-American Summer Music Institute in Prague. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society in Music.
Before joining the Boise State Music Department, Eric taught music composition, music theory, aural skills, and orchestration at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, where he also co-directed the Open Space Festival of New Music. His teaching and research interests include music theory pedagogy, twentieth and twenty-first-century music, and musical form.
