Getting Started with a Music Major or Minor at Boise State
Students interested in pursuing a music major or minor at Boise State must first be accepted into the Department of Music.
Please note, the steps outlined below only apply if you want to major or minor in music. Any Boise State student can participate in our ensembles — regardless of major.
Ensemble directors typically hold membership and placement auditions during the first week of classes. The Blue Thunder Marching Band is the exception to this rule.
Department Admission Requirements
Requirements for admission into the Department of Music at Boise State consists of two main steps:
- Apply to Boise State
- Audition or interview for the Department of Music
Music scholarships are determined and awarded through the audition process. Boise State Music recognizes talented students by awarding music scholarships for all instrumental and vocal areas. Auditions for priority scholarship consideration must be completed by the conclusion of the second Audition Day.
