Ensembles

About The Meistersingers

The Meistersingers are Boise State’s premier choral ensemble and represent the finest in choral excellence at Boise State. Membership is open to all interested Boise State students with a passion for quality choral literature. This auditioned group performs music from all historical periods and various nationalities. In addition, the Meistersingers perform three to four times a year, including regional/national tours and at the annual Boise State Holiday Concert. Auditions for the Meistersingers are held at the beginning of each academic year.

About Vox Angelis

Vox Angelis is designed for treble-voice singers who are interested in performing a wide repertoire of music composed for treble voices. They meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the early afternoon. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester. Previous singing experience and the ability to read music is highly recommended.

About the University Singers

A non-auditioned choir with singers from all academic disciplines. Performs numerous times throughout the year, including the annual Boise State Holiday Concert.

About Opera and Musical Theatre

Run collaboratively by faculty and students, the Boise State Opera Workshop is a new program being developed to provide training and performance opportunities for vocational and avocational singers working and studying in the Treasure Valley. Designed to create accessible and innovative performances, the Boise State Opera Workshop nurtures and develops aspiring artists studying at Boise State while supporting and partnering with local entities in their efforts to do the same.

Many voice students at Boise State are also members of the Opera Idaho Resident Company.  Open to student, vocational and professional singers, the Resident Company offers abundant opportunities for education and professional development.  Opera Workshop students who are members of the Resident Company may receive Opera Workshop course credit for participation in Opera Idaho productions.

About the Vocal Jazz Ensemble

The Boise State Vocal Jazz Ensemble is a group of select singers accompanied by piano, bass, guitar, and drums.  They study and perform America’s original musical art form: jazz.

For more than 20 years, the group has performed musical styles ranging from Latin beats to swing, from sensitive ballads to the blues. The Boise State Vocal Jazz ensemble has performed at the Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree and was selected as one of the outstanding college choirs at the University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
