The Semiconductor for All (S4A) Grant is part of a greater initiative to grow an enduring microelectronic workforce. This will keep production of semiconductors in the United States. The grant began with the CHIPS Act of 2022, and is forging pathways for students to enter the industry.
This is why the grant focuses on education of semiconductors for all students across the country.
Once-in-a-Generation Investment
Unprecedented Federal investment through the CHIPS Act will expand education, research, supply chains, and capacity in microelectronics and semiconductors. This act will allow for education and workforce development, on U.S. soil.
These technologies are used in every aspect of modern life. This includes cell phones, AI, computer memory, medical instruments, autonomous vehicles, the internet, and more.
Connection to the MER Institute
Boise State’s Institute for Microelectronics Education and Research (MER) and the S4A Grant were initiated in July 2023. Together, they will forge the path for Boise State to become the premier university in the region in the field of microelectronics and semiconductor education and research.
