High School Course Brings New Learning Opportunities – Chip, Chip, Hooray!

Chip, Chip, Hooray!

The first of three courses being developed under the Semiconductor for All grant – a $5 million initiative aimed at building workforce development pathways into the semiconductor industry – has been wrapped up. In partnership with the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance (IDLA) and Micron, the new Institute of Microelectronics Education and Research at Boise State has set the stage for bringing semiconductor content and concepts to high school aged students across Idaho.

The course will be available for students to take this coming Fall 2024 through the IDLA online learning platform. Students who take the course will learn what semiconductors are (the foundation of all chips!), where they are used in Idaho and beyond, how to build basic circuits, and what careers are possible in the semiconductor industry. They will delve into industry innovations and manufacturing, explore both technical and non-technical career pathways, and investigate what the future holds for semiconductors. Students will be challenged with team tasks and gamified learning experiences to enhance their engagement.

The next two courses are currently in development with the IDLA team and are set to launch in 2025.
