Student Spotlight: Kellie McMillan

Meet Kellie McMillan, a non-traditional student in the Department of Media. She will soon graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Boise State’s online Integrated Strategic Communications program. Along the way, Kellie earned a Content Production certificate with additional certifications, leveling up her expertise through courses in the College of Innovation + Design, particularly the innovative Society for Ideas. Balancing full-time school, work, motherhood, and life in a blended family definitely has its challenges, but Boise State’s online program—combined with the unwavering support of her family, professors and peers—helped her achieve what once seemed impossible.

Through her studies, Kellie discovered the power of creative communication—Boise State’s supportive online learning environment and dedicated professors and peers helped her rediscover her creativity and find her voice. Kellie channeled her passion into Two Distracted Girls, an up-and-coming podcast she co-founded with her friend Kayla Lawley. The podcast explores their experiences with neurodivergence and PTSD, celebrating all the beauty and chaos of life while creating a space where “weird finds acceptance and normal is challenged.” They recently joined forces with Allison Kouba’s LLC, Kouba Social Co. to gain hands-on experience helping local businesses build authentic connections.
