Diverse Discussions: Media Approaches to Polarizing Topics (Nov. 3)

The Boise State University Department of Media will host a panel discussion event on Nov. 3rd at 5:30 pm in the Boise State University Special Event Center (1800 W University Drive). Media experts Melissa Paul, Nancy Buffington, and Russ Stoddard will share their experiences and knowledge with Boise State University students and the surrounding community.

The panel discussion will dive into various media issues pertaining to media ethics, balanced reporting, social responsibility, and corporate messaging. This event is free to the public and will cover the three speakers’ areas of expertise within their respective media and communication careers.

Melissa Paul is an On-Air personality at KTVB and host of “Idaho Today”. She is going to share her insight on broadcast journalism, interview techniques, and how to find balance when reporting on difficult topics. Nancy Buffington, Ph.D. is a professional speaker, communications coach, and a TEDx Boise trainer. Nancy will expand on her experience working within the business community on how to prepare and position messaging for optimal communication. Lastly, Russ Stoddard is the owner of Oliver Russell and Associates and the president of the nonprofit organization City of Good. Stoddard is going to give his expertise in advertising while describing the challenges of becoming a pioneer for social change within Treasure valley.
